Could I Borrow?

Less buying. More sharing.

Borrowing etiquette that keeps sharing comfortable

Sharing works best when both people can say yes comfortably and say no without pressure. Clear expectations matter more than a complicated set of rules.

Ask clearly and leave room for a no

Say what you need, what you plan to use it for, and the dates you have in mind. Wait for the owner's agreement before treating the loan as confirmed.

If you are lending, be honest about limits. You may want to keep an item private, lend only to a particular circle, or decline a request.

Agree on care and responsibility

Discuss pickup, return, included parts, and any special care instructions before the handoff. Do not pass the item on to someone else without asking the owner.

Talk about what you would do if something breaks or goes missing. Do not assume that an app provides insurance or settles every disagreement.

Communicate early and return thoughtfully

If you are running late or discover damage, tell the owner promptly. A short, honest message gives you both a chance to agree on the next step.

Return the item on time, clean, and with everything included. Check it together and thank the lender. Small habits make the next exchange easier.
